Triggered By The Tranz

24068819_10155855264799844_4081140009308796329_oI think it would be good for me to try to explain why it is that I find the Tranz issue so compelling, to the extent that I am engaging in guerrilla art acts and writing essays and letters to editors and to women’s organizations that are centering genderist ideology in their programming.

I talk about some of early impressions about gender-bending that I acquired from popular novels and movies in my first essay, Tranz Trances, Session 1  here on this blog.  I lived in a housing coop here in Iowa City that centered tranz ideology;  where we were required to state our preferred pronouns at the beginning of every business meeting. There were tranz individuals living there and I really did not think it was a harmful thing to choose to live this way.

THIS IS SHE

But then I joined lefty art group and came in close contact with women and men who said they were the other sex, some were taking cross sex hormones, but others were not. There was one man in the group who had a female name. He was a tall, muscular, balding, blonde man in his twenties. There was unspoken social pressure that was exerted on everyone to refer to this man as “she.” I felt weird about this and went to some length to find ways to avoid having to use any pronoun. One day I was working with one of the founding members, a talented woman whom I otherwise admire, (I’ll call her “Kay”) and I felt very creepy when she referred to him as she and I knew that I was not allowed to question this in any way lest I be considered an ignorant bigot.

Now that I have done considerable research into this phenomenon I know that what “Kay” did to me is known as gaslighting.  She was fucking with my perception of physical reality in order to further her own political agenda. This incident, along with another related incident,  was what started my peak tranz moment and which massively triggered me to the point where I was compelled to speak out and take action.

I had a moment of clarity some months ago about how what “Kay” did to me was reminiscent of what my mother did to me, viv-a-vis my being sexually assaulted by my father. Recently I woke up from a dream that made the link even more explicit.  In the dream “Kay” invited me to be part of the group again and outlined projects I might like to work on.  I decided I needed to confront her about why I had left the group, but I kept chickening out. We were at a student center and one student had a sign with a half-man/half-woman image on the door to their room. I pressed on regardless with her about how it is really not possible to change your sex, let’s get rid of patriarchal gender roles, etc.  She seemed to be listening…and then I woke up.

And my first thought upon waking was that what “Kay” did to me, i.e., calling a man SHE because it was seen as the groovy new politically correct thing to do, was part and parcel of RAPE CULTURE and it’s valuation of men’s lies over women’s lived reality. And, yes, this is what happened to me as a child of a violent pedophile. He was supported and enabled by this male supremacist culture and I was silenced and vilified.

The dream was a wish-fulfillment of mine, and did not give me any hope of a resolution with this woman or with the community that has adopted tranz ideology as its transcendent value. But it did help me understand why I am so “triggered” by tranz ideology.

What the man who says he is a woman has done/is doing is not some benign action. It is not positive or brave or groovy, however trendy it may seem to be and despite having been adopted as the central thesis of the (former) Gay Liberation Movement.

Tranzing is rape culture. It is sick men with a clothing fetish and alienated self-hating women engaging in the thrill of social violation. Tranz ideology is a patriarchal poison that gives the appearance of being about liberating people from sexual bondage, but is really a psychological warfare against women, the body and the natural world. The man at the art center was violating my psychological integrity.  It was a power move on his part, a giant fuck you to me and my aging, broken down, childbearing body.

And “Kay” and the other women at the art center are colluding with psychopaths and participating in the gaslighting.  “Kay” was  protecting and enabling  this abuser to the extent that I was ostracized from the group. This is what my mother did to me when she protected my abuser and blamed me for his abuse. This is what patriarchal women do to other women to make them obey the rules that men make. “Kay” may as well be one of the women who holds down girls to scrape off their genitals or bind their feet. It’s the exact same process for the same reason, When I wrote to this group to tell them how I had been hurt and why I had some problems with tranz ideology in regard to sterilizing gender nonconforming children I was ignored.

Now that I’ve had this clarifying dream I can start to let go of my rage over this. I have been battling male supremacist violence in all it’s many chimeric forms for 65 years and I FAILED to make a dent in it. Male supremacy has led to the destruction of the entire biosphere and I am unable to stop it. My only consolation is the fact that I did speak up and I did fight back.

Tranz Awareness At The Iowa City Library

9642197_G

This is the transcript of correspondence between myself and the director of the Iowa City Public Library,  Mx. Susan Craig. I noticed a display of literature in a prominent position at the library and wondered whether it was a good idea to advertise medical procedures to children who might not understand the risks associated with medical sexual re-assignment treatments. There is of course no gender critical literature at the ICPL, no Mary Daly,  No Janice Raymond,  nothing. Her invitation to set up my own display was hollow because of the lack of gender critical voices being represented at the library.  It’s as if Second Wave feminism has been deleted from history, which coincidentally, is what patriarchy does to all women’s voices and all of women’s history

Subject: Trans Awareness

Hello Susan Craig,

I don’t know if you are the appropriate person to be directing this missive to, but i need to speak up about something i have a strong concern about.  I came into the library today and saw the display on Trans Awareness Week. Last year I also noticed the display and wrote to ICPL via your Facebook page. In the intervening year I have done considerable research into the Trans phenomenon and I am even more concerned about your uncritical promotion of this trend. Yes, fine, free speech and dissemination of information about cultures is a good thing, but there is a very dark side to Transgenderism that you are not presenting and unfortunately, this could cause permanent harm to impressionable young people.

So, keep the display but also present the other side of the issue. You need to give information about who is funding this initiative and the dangers to human bodies, especially the bodies of children, of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones.

This is a movement that is promoting the sterilization and mutilation of gender non-conforming children. What other mental condition in children calls for chemical sterilization and the destruction of genital tissue such that the child is unable to experience sexual pleasure? If you don’t care about women having privacy to rinse out their bloody panties without individuals who who were socialized into the male sex role before they started taking estrogen, or about former men taking away spots from women on women’s sports teams, or about rapists who say they are trans in order to be transferred to women’s prisons…then at least consider that sterilizing children and destroying their bodies with synthetic hormones needs at least a mention in your celebratory display.

Here are relevant links to some of the information that I have been researching:

Cross sex hormones cause bone decay, cancer, heart disease and genital atrophy. Adults have a right to do this to themselves. Children are too young to give consent for this.

And….Here is the reply I received from Mx. Craig:

Ms Smith,

I have talked to the staff about this display.  It is planned to coincide with Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance which is observed internationally on November 20, “as a day to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and to draw attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community.”    The display is in keeping with Library and City values of equity and inclusion.

We do not accept responsibility for ensuring that all points of view are represented in a display.  If you would like to share your perspective you are able to book a display space to share your information on this topic.  Here is a link to the Library’s display policy:

Tranz Trances, Session 1

This essay is the first of a series I’m writing about my reactions to and analysis of the Tranzing phenomenon, from cross-dressing to hormones and surgery, and it’s effect on women as a class.  The first time I considered the Tranz issue, other than wishing I had been born a boy in order to avoid sexual assault by men (beginning with my father),  was when I was 17 and read this popular novel by Robert Heinlein:

 l Will  Fear No Evil

downloadPlot summary

The story takes place in the early 21st century against a background of an overpopulated Earth with a violent, dysfunctional society. Elderly billionaire Johann Sebastian Bach Smith is being kept alive through medical support and decides to have his brain transplanted into a new body. He advertises an offer of a million dollars for the donation of a body from a brain-dead patient. Smith omits to place any restriction on the sex of the donor, so when his beautiful young female secretary, Eunice Branca, is murdered, her body is used. He changes his name to Joan Eunice Smith, with the first name given “the two-syllable pronunciation” Jo-Ann to mimic the sound of his original name.

After Smith awakens after the transplant, he discovers he can communicate with Eunice’s personality. They agree not to reveal her existence, fearing that they would be judged insane and locked up. Smith’s identity is unsuccessfully challenged by his descendants, who hope to inherit his fortune. Smith and Eunice decide to have a baby together and so they (Joan and Eunice) are artificially inseminated using Smith’s sperm from the sperm bank. Joan explores her new sexuality at length. She goes to visit Eunice’s widower, Joe Branca, to help reconcile him to what has happened.

Joan marries her lawyer, Jake Salomon, and moves her household and friends onto a boat. Jake has a massive rupture of a large blood vessel in his brain and dies, but his personality is saved and joins Smith and Eunice in Joan’s head. She (Joan, Eunice and Jake) emigrates to the moon to find a better future for her child. Once there, her body starts to reject her (Smith’s) transplanted brain. She dies during childbirth.

tootsie_impThen the movie,  Tootsie came along. Then there was Torch Song Trilogy, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the Tranz phenomenon, at least as it sugared-off for men. I saw Transvestitism and Drag Queens as kind of fun and essentially harmless. I had read Mary Daly’s Gyn/Ecology in the mid nineteen-eighties and I registered her disapproval of men pretending to be women, but this was before the hormone/surgery option to become the opposite sex started to become widely socially acceptable and at that time I didn’t see trans-genderism as much of a threat to anyone.

In the early 2000’s my daughter started reporting to me about the gender-bending trends among her peers. Non-binary, gender-fluid, etc. people in various combinations hooking up. And I even thought that was ok, because they seemed to be challenging the patriarchal gender hierarchy and searching for new ways to express their sexuality.

I had some dire health problems and wound up moving in temporarily at the student housing coop where my daughter was living. There were transgender people living at the coop’s houses and before every business meeting we had to go around in the circle and voice our preference of pronoun. I went along with this, also thinking that it was somehow liberating of traditional gender/sex roles and a progressive move in the direction of female equality with men. Many of the coop members identified as feminists and the structure of the meetings was supposedly based on something known as feminist process.

I went to the local rape crisis center both for support for my own post-incest recovery issues and to offer support to others. What I found there were posters talking about “gender-based violence.”:

“Gender-based violence (GBV) is the general term used to capture violence that occurs as a result of the normative role expectations associated with each gender, along with the unequal power relationships between the two genders, within the context of a specific society.” (Bloom 2008, p14).

I don’t know if it’s obvious to you, but it seems really creepy to me that the word “woman” has been erased and omitted in favor of the word, “gender.” At the rape crisis center the posters pictured girls being sexually abusive to boys. Yeah,  I get it that this happens, it happened to my brother, but in fact all men do not live in fear of all women who are stronger and more socially powerful than they are. It doesn’t matter what the statistics are, what matters is that the sexual caste system oppresses ALL women and gives ALL men privilege. And this fact is being minimized, hidden, erased.

And that is a problem for me and for all women. Because erasing women is not a new thing within patriarchal cultures.

The Tranz Trance is simply the most recent phase of torturing and obliterating females and female bodies. It is the same kind of  behavior-mod practice as footbinding and clitoridectomy , essentially products of virulently patriarchal, misogynistic, body-hating cultures. Just the normal modus operandi of the phallocratic sadostate. The human body is part of nature, and nature is seen by patriarchy as something to conquer, control, commoditize and destroy. It’s part and parcel of the thrust of the Corporate-Industrial Medical Corrections System’s intent to take control of and take credit for fertility and reproduction, from invasive and painful “fertility treatments” to genetically-raped organisms.  It is the Male-Mothering that Mary Daly describes so eloquently in her books on feminist ethics.

It took awhile for me to be able to put together the severed parts, but the fact that Tranzing is a psychiatric and surgical matter was a strong clue as to what, exactly, I was confronting.

Trans sexual, trans gender,  we are supposed to go into a trance and overlook the horror that is at the heart of the matter. I have been attempting to understand this incursion into the Sacred Space of Female Integrity but more as more I can see the roots of the ritualized sado-masochistic Goddess dismemberment and murder that is being re-enacted by the adherents of this ideology.
